BSBWOR404 Develop Work Priorities

I mentioned in my last blog that this unit was the next cab off the rank and I’ve just completed the resources for this unit.

It’s a Group A unit, and you must have a minimum of 4 from Group A in BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management. Now my clients have a choice. Some of them don’t want to use TAEDEL404 Mentor in the workplace so that’s why this unit needed to be developed.
Now I need to start on the RPL tools for all of the units. I’ll be starting with the RPL tools for BSB51915 Diploma of leadership and management.

They will be slightly different from the way I’ve developed them in the past. I plan to put the application form as a separate document, rather than include it in each unit.
Also, practical activities are optional in RPL, and because of the way I’ve mapped the assessments in the learning and assessment pathway, any gaps that the assessor identifies can be filled by selecting assessments from them.

This will speed up development greatly and I’m hoping to do one per day (cross fingers).

On the home front, I’m about to call builders and organise to renovate the bathrooms. One at a time of course. I may work alone but I still need to shower!

3 Qualifications Completed

It’s been full on since March but I now have resources for all three of the qualifications I was working on.

They were developed in this order:
1. BSB51915 Diploma of Leadership and Management
2. BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management
3. BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety

There’s a complete list of all units developed, in order of code, on this website as a separate document that can be downloaded and easily printed.
BSB42015 Cert IV Leadership and Management and BSB41415 Cert IV WHS have quite a few overlaps in the electives. There’s even an overlap with the Diploma, since BSBPMG522 Undertake project work is common to all three qualifications.

The work is not over yet. In response to requests from existing clients I will be developing resources for:
· BSBLDR503 Communicate with influence; and
· BSBWOR404 Develop work priorities

Because of the rush, I haven’t developed RPL tools so I will also be going back and developing RPL tools for each of the units.

Those of you who have been following my comments and those of Chemene on Linkedln will know that TAE40110 new qualification is still not endorsed. It was supposed to go to AISC September meeting but didn’t. There is an October and December meeting but Robert Bluer at IBSA doesn’t seem confident about whether it will be endorsed at all this year.

As a result, those of us who develop TAE resources don’t quite know what to do. Chemene Sinson (Blackwater Projects) is holding fire apart from TAELLN411 which is already endorsed. I have already developed TAELLN411 but am not actively marketing it, except to make it available to my existing clients. (You will notice it’s not on the list of units developed.)

The last few months have severely reduced the time I could devote to actual training and hopefully I can spend a bit more time with “real people” now that the worst of the development is done. However, this may be a vain hope as I can see TAE rearing its ugly head soon.

The Complete BSB42015

I’m happy to say that I have now completed the resources for BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management. Not before time, as I have clients waiting for them. Some couldn’t wait and have been purchasing the units one by one as soon as they are developed.

The qualification BSB42015 is the successor to BSB40812 Certificate IV in Frontline Management, but is not equivalent. Nevertheless, several of the units were equivalent and I had already developed resources for the FLM qualification — much the same way that I already had Diploma of Management resources that I could use as the basis for the Diploma of Leadership and Management.

Having said that, there was more to change in the Cert IV than there was in the Diploma —which is why it took me so long. As I’ve mentioned before, the new format replaces Required Knowledge with Knowledge Evidence and the change in the wording often requires further assessment tasks.

Example from BSBMGT401 Show leadership in the workplace:
· explain how to identify an organisation’s standards and values when they are:
o stated
o implied

This was implied in the performance criteria for BSBMGT401A but not stated as Required Knowledge. In this case it was insufficient for the candidate to have applied the organisation’s standards and values as demonstrated in performance of a task. They also have to explain how they identified the stated and implied values.

So altogether this development project has been challenging and I’m relieved to be moving on. Now I’m starting on BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety. This is the qualification most in demand by my clients, but I also considered it was the one that would need the least work to modify. Hopefully that’s correct. I’m aiming to have the Cert IV WHS resources all complete by the end of August.

With regard to the new TAE Cert IV, the latest word is that it will be out in September. That will suit my timing quite well but I’m not holding my breath. We have been expecting this qualification for over a year now.

BSB51915 Proving Popular

My resources for BSB51915 Diploma of leadership and management are proving very popular, especially with my existing clients. I’ve heard from one of my clients in Western Australia that he has just been through a TAC audit and they passed with flying colours. So far there hasn’t been an ASQA audit that I’m aware of.

Several of the new clients purchased just a couple of the units for BSB51915 – wanting to try them out before committing to any more. It’s great that they are now coming back and buying the balance of the qualification.

I’m still working on the resources for BSB42015 Certificate IV in leadership and management and some of my existing clients are buying them one by one as they are developed. The core are all completed now, and I’m up to the Risk Management unit in the electives.
Originally I was hoping to complete these by the end of June but it’s taking me longer than I expected. Even where the unit is stated as equivalent to the old FLM unit, there are many changes needed and for some units it’s been more efficient to do a complete re-write.

So for those of you who have resources from previous units that are stated as equivalent, I definitely recommend a complete validation and re-mapping. The performance criteria won’t give you any trouble but the knowledge evidence and performance evidence often requires additional or changed assessment tasks.

Also, now that foundation skills are mapped to the PCs you will have to see whether the tasks that you mapped to each PC addresses the specified foundation skills.

I’d like to say a special thank-you to Kevin who looks after my web site. Almost every week he needs to make changes to show what’s now developed. Since my phone number went to the top of the web page I’m getting all these calls from people who tell me they can do a better job and keep me at the top of the Google search engine. I just laugh.

Further BSB42015 Development

Having completed 13 units for BSB51915 Diploma of Leadership and Management, I have been working on the units for BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.

I’ve completed the first 3 core units so far:
• BSBLDR401 Communicate effectively as a workplace leader
• BSBLDR402 Lead effective workplace relationships
• BSBLDR403 Lead team effectiveness

I‘m about to start developing BSBMGT402 Implement operational plan.
In most cases, although I have developed resources for the previous superseded unit, it’s not just a case of re-mapping. In some cases it’s almost a complete re-write.

Although the performance criteria are usually identical, the Knowledge Evidence is written in a different way. It’s no longer sufficient for knowledge to be demonstrated with performance. The candidate must “explain”, “outline” or “describe”.
The Performance Evidence bears practically no relationship to the previous Critical Aspects of Evidence. Re-mapping of the old resource might be sufficient but there’s no guarantee.

So for those of you who are upgrading your existing resources, be warned. The learning material will probably be fine, but your assessments will definitely need looking at.
On the up side, I’m actually enjoying this challenge (apart from the pressure of time). It gives me a chance to look back on what I have written with fresh eyes and see ways to make the resource much better than last time.
